Speed level calculator

Which speed level should I set?

Choose your machine, job, hole size and metal in the form below. You get the level to set on the speed dial, and the gear if your machine has one. The answer is based on ALLCUT's own factory data. Change any field and the speed updates at once.

How we work it out

Bigger hole, slower speed. Harder metal, slower speed.

  1. 1

    Start from the factory data

    Every ALLCUT machine comes with factory data that says which level suits which hole size in mild steel. Example: TwisTech 23, 10 to 13 mm hole, Level 3.

  2. 2

    Adjust for the metal

    Stainless steel needs less than half the speed of mild steel, so we step down. Aluminium can go faster, so we step up, never past the top level.

  3. 3

    Pick the safe level

    The dial has fixed levels. We pick the fastest level that is not faster than the right speed. On 2-gear machines, big holes use Gear 1 for more pulling power.

rpm = speed of the cutting edge × 1000 ÷ (3.14 × hole size)

The standard machining rule. We use it for machines and jobs that have no factory size data, with the same safe edge speed the factory data is built on. A size on the edge between two levels gets the slower level.
